University Malaysia Sabah

Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) is the ninth public institution of higher education in Malaysia. It was established under the University of Malaysia Sabah (Corporation) Order 1994 which was gazetted on October 30, 1994 under the Universities and University Colleges Act 1971. The aim of establishing UMS was to create a skilled and trained community to meet the needs of professional work force in science, technology, management and other areas consistent with the country’s national strategies and global demands.

UMS is committed to educating the current and future generations about sustainability of natural systems and empowering them to play active roles in this area at global. Steps have been taken to develop teaching and research programs incorporating the sustainability themes. Also, events are occasionally organized to bring the society on board in actions that demonstrate the role of natural ecosystems for human well-being and socio-economic development. No efforts are spared in making sustainability a priority for the university and reducing footprint of campus operations.

UMS established the EcoCampus Management Centre in Februry 2013 as a platform for promoting sustainability programs including sustainable development goals, ecological protection, and Environmental stewardship. All sections of the University have crafted their action plants towards campus sustainability as well as contributing towards the goals of sustainable development.
