Universiti Malaysia Sarawak

Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) was officially incorporated on 24 December 1992. A university that is contemporary in character and forward-looking in outlook, it is committed to providing the nation with leaders, managers, scientists and technical specialists as well as thoughtful citizens who are capable of handling the complex challenges of our common future - confidently, competently, and creatively. The university is situated at the heart of Borneo. The campus is 40-minute's drive from the City of Kuching, the capital and the most populous city in the state of Sarawak in Malaysia.

To be deeply engaged and networked with societies around it, UNIMAS had established a strategic focus on sustainability for the diverse and dispersed community. This will contribute towards significant and impactful roles in transforming the community via various avenues such as knowledge and technology transfer programme, and university social responsibilities programme. This unique ecosystem is geared towards achieving the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). UNIMAS has established the Community Sustainability Centre with the aims to lead and coordinate industries and communities related development projects and activities. Various activities have been organized and implemented to achieve the goals. Examples of activities are UNIMAS Educational Forest, Real Living Lab and Zero Single-use Plastics. Research towards sustainability and renewable energy has also been enhanced through the establishment of the Institute Of Sustainable And Renewable Energy.
