Universiti Utara Malaysia

Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) was established on 16 February 1984. It is the 6th local public university in Malaysia and has been specialised in management science since its inception. The university is located in Sintok, Kedah, about 47km north of the capital city Alor Setar and 10km from the Malaysia-Thailand border. The primary objective for the setting up of UUM is to train and to produce the much needed pool of professionals in the areas of business, management, and social sciences for the local and international markets.

Its academic programmes are geared towards providing a broad spectrum of academic knowledge and intellectual skills in related areas of business, management, economics, public administration, governance and law, social work, education, and scientific management sciences. Besides, the university implementing extensive research ecosystems, promoting a culture of scholarly publications, and making the institution relevant to community beyond the campus through continuous and effortlessly social, economic and intellectual development. The University has a crucial role to play when engaging the surrounding local communities in community-based projects, in developing or strengthening community-university partnerships through collaboration with other government agencies and/or the private sector.

Living Campus is a strategic plan for the sustainability of UUM 2030. The plan outlines the holistic vision of UUM and sets university-wide goals and priorities in the areas of emissions and energy, campus operations, nature and ecosystems, waste management, campus health and wellness, culture and learning.

Living Campus encourages students, faculty, and staff to continue to work hard in creating solutions for various sustainability issues across the University through the latest and appropriate research and teaching. These would help to address real-world challenges on campus and assisting the university to optimize available resources inside the campus and implement prudent savings.

Living Campus practices a quadruple helix partnership with communities, industry and government to ensure that best practices introduced can be implemented outside of UUM for mutual benefit of many stakeholders and parties.
